TOPIC: COMING OUT OF THE SHELL OF PERPETRATOR

OBJECTIVES-

  1. Sensitizing the College community to the major social issues of Domestic violence, eve teasing, body shaming and sexual assault
  2. Adopting the technique of drama to unfold experiences resident within the group

RESULT

In a debriefing, there was a positive feedback. They had understood the presentation. They realized the need of change of mentality, a few felt a need to change the upbringing of boys. They had understood the meaning of perpetrator of which they had no idea earlier to the session. They understood the gravity of the situation & need of the hour to change own perspective of looking at the problem.

Written feedback was good and a few of them want us to address them again.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY AT ST. JOHN’S COLLEGE BY PSYCHIATRY DEPARTMENT , RURAL HOMOEOPATHIC HOSPITAL, PALGHAR

TOPIC– “COMING OUT OF THE SHELL OF PERPETRATOR.”

VENUE-AUDITORIUM OF ST. JOHN’S COLLEGE.

A Skit on the above mentioned topic was presented at above mentioned venue on the occasion of International Women’s Day. A team of doctors was invited for creating awareness of such a  sensitive topic. The students and teachers comprised of 180-200 boys from UG college of pharmacy, commerce, engineering

TEAM– Dr. Devyani, Dr. Manasi, Dr. Rishikesh, Dr. Deepali Naik, Dr. Raja, Dr. Anuj, Dr. Rasika Co-ordinator -Dr. Jitesh, Supervisor/Guide from faculty- Dr. Sunita Nikumbh Ma’am.

OBJECTIVES OF PRESENTATION-

  1. Sensitizing the College community to the major social issues of Domestic violence, eve teasing, body shaming and sexual assault
  2. Adopting the technique of drama to unfold experiences resident within the group

PRESENTATION

Dr. Sunita Ma’am introduced the team to audience, & explained the purpose of presentation, team had anticipated, that we might have to face mocking (reason -age group was 18+ & topic was sensitive) but happened exactly opposite of what was anticipated……audience- 200+ students, 20+ staff, & principal

Skit started with narration followed by 4 major plots showcasing domestic violence, eve teasing, gender bias attitude, body shaming, sexual assault – with each plot, seriousness of crowd increased & it reached at its peak when issue like sexual assault was presented, (when victim was been compared with sister, mother). There was a pin drop silence at the end of the skit. Acting skills of the team were really powerful specially Rishikesh & Mansi’s & Raja’s plots. From the expressions on the faces, the crowd must have felt they will beat each other. There was a pin drop silence at the end of the skit we got the silent feedback that we have executed well & conveyed what we wanted to & team received a very huge applause (only after 30 sec of pin drop silence). I think that silence was the biggest compliment.

Results

In a debriefing, there was a positive feedback. They had understood the presentation. They realized the need of change of mentality, a few felt a need to change the upbringing of boys. They had understood the meaning of perpetrator of which they had no idea earlier to the session. They understood the gravity of the situation & need of the hour to change own perspective of looking at the problem.

Written feedback was good and a few of them want us to address them again.

CHALLENGES INVOLVED

Dealing with a sensitive issue, preparing for it & most important, the execution was challenging. One needs to be highly sensitive & equally sensible while dealing with such topics.
