Dr. M. L. Dhawale Memorial Homoeopathic Institute, Bengaluru

History

The Bengaluru branch of the Dr. M. L. Dhawale Memorial Homoeopathic Institute has been in operation since 2003. IASH (Institute for advance studies in Homoeopathy) adopted from the ICR its vision of Tri-Coordinate care – Patient, learner and knowledge care. At Bengaluru the MLDT in association with IASH is able to further its mission of reaching education and homoeopathic medical care to otherwise unreachable areas.

Charitable Clinics

(a) RamRam Ashram – Bande, Nettigere village, Somanahalli Gram Panchayat (2003).

(b) Ravugudlu village, Somanahalli Gram Panchayat (2006),

(c) Fireflies ashram – Dinnepalya village, Kagglipura Gram Panchayat (2007),

These clinics together see around 500 patients every month.

Attached to these clinics are about 16 villages, to which we reach out through mobile units.

Three mobile units function 5 days a week and reach to a population of about 30,000.

About 1000 patients are seen every month in the last 5 years.

Geographically , these villages are situated off Knakapura road – covering 6 gram panchayats of two districts – Bengaluru south and Ramanagar district. These villages do not have primary health care centre and has no medical facilities. A large population of aged, women and children are in need of basic medical care. The few Government PHCs are minimum 5 kms away from every village. The terrains are rough and the access roads are rough, dusty, and pebble ridden despite being in the vicinity of the state capital. The socio economic conditions are not conducive.

Homoeopathic Industrial Unit- At TVS factory, Hosur

Operational since 2007. Functions 1 day / week. About 20 patients from TVS industries are seen every week.

Tribal Centre

a Tribal centre is operational since January 2017 in H.D.Kote taluk, Mysore district.

A clinic has been set up at Magge – Village in collaboration with another CBO.

Health care is an unknown factor in these settlements. To begin with, 4 hadis ( Settlements) where we have necessary permissions are being served- Magge, Hunsekuppe, Gundathuru and D.B Kuppe.

Our academic affiliation is much earlier than our clinical association. What started a study group , now conducts

  • Weekly clinical meetings
  • Bimonthly workshops
  • Orientation programme for orienting young doctors to the special aspects of Homoeopathic Care.

    Regaular batch of 30 doctors and about 10 doctors of the orientation programme are trained for better delivery of homoeopathic health care.

Regular Health camps

Specifically designed with the community needs in mind are organized once in 3 months

Outreach Programmes

(a)Malnutrition eradication –targeting the age group of 2- 5 yrs in two Aanganwadis of Bande Settlement and Sakkamma doodi near Dinnepalya village.

(b)Training programmes for Women Community Health Volunteers selected from the Community – a group of 24 CHWs trained in three batches work in the 19 plus 2 villages of all units of CHS Bengaluru.

(c) Self Help group for the Community health volunteers- the 24 CHWs and the MPWs use this platform to produce and sell local products. The branch steps in as an intermediary in making them self sufficient.

(d)School Health programmes- 400 children through 5 government schools are being cared for general health with weekly visits and follow ups.

(e) Research projects–

  1. Slow learners project – Successfully completed a pilot study in 100 government schools in the year 2016.
  2. Rural women health project – started with objective of improving the status of women’s health and consequently her family’s health status.

This project has further branched out in to various areas – like anemia in school going girls, osteoporosis detection and  prevention in reproductive age group.

(f) telemedicine-Implemented the technology at one unit of CHS on an experimental basis since  April 2017. the result  of this introduction is that the Increasing pt engagement and satisfaction as the doctor is available on all days of  the week from a distance.
